Problems at U.S. beef plants
Japanese inspectors reviewing U.S. beef processing plants for a possible resumption of imports have found problems at some facilities, a news report said July 25.
The inspection team returned to Japan on July 23 after a month touring 35 facilities in the United States, making sure they meet Japanese guidelines for restarting beef trade, the Yomiuri Shimbun said, citing unidentified agriculture ministry officials. The team said they found compliance problems at one or two facilities.
The government agreed in principle to resume imports July on condition that plant inspections found no problems.
