Suzuka Hatakeyama、arrested July 18 for allegedly drowning her daughter Ayaka.

Suzuka Hatakeyama, 33, is suspected to have dropped her daughter Ayaka, 9, from Osawa Bridge into the Fujikoto River in Fujisato, Akita Prefecture, around 6:45 p.m. on April 9. Hatakeyama reported to police that Ayaka had gone missing the same day.

Ayaka was found drowned the following day.

Although she admitted to killing her daughter, the woman has had difficulties recalling exactly what happened, police said.

The police are faced with growing criticism for allegedly concluding too quickly that Ayaka died in an accident.
