Ha Byeong-ok, president of the Korean Residents Union in Japan (Mindan), speaks at an extraordinary central committee meeting June 24.

The president of the pro-Seoul Korean group Korean Residents Union in Japan (Mindan) indicated June 24 the group would have to review a reconciliation statement it signed with the pro-Pyongyang General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryun), in May.
"The statement got back to the start," Mindan President Ha Byeong-ok said at its extraordinary central committee meeting in Tokyo.
Those opposed to the reconciliation statement have accused the Mindan leadership of signing the statement even though it was never discussed by its central committee or central executive committee.
Ha indicated he will ask all five Mindan vice presidents to resign. Groups against reconciliation with Chongryun are expected to call an emergency meeting to seek Ha's resignation.
Chongryun's head office declined to comment, saying it had yet to hear anything from Mindan.
