Gas prices hit 15-year high
Motorists in Japan are paying more at the pumps on average now than at any time since February 1991.
The retail price of regular gasoline rose to an average of ¥135 per liter May 8, up ¥4 from a week earlier, the Oil Information Center said.
Since oil retailers started passing on the cost of rising wholesale prices to consumers, prices at gas stations have been climbing nationwide.
Wholesale prices of oil products have risen ¥4.1 to ¥4.3 per liter in response to rising crude prices.
