No progress in abduction talks

Kim Chol Ho, North Korea's chief delegate

Japan and North Korea on Feb. 7 failed again to bridge their differences over the abductions of Japanese nationals by North Korean agents, following talks Feb. 5, negotiators said.
Kim Chol Ho, North Korea's chief negotiator, said the differences between the two countries remained "very big."
Kunio Umeda, Kim's Japanese counterpart, said the outcome of the abduction talks was "extremely regrettable."
"We strongly demanded sincere measures from the other side on three points, including the repatriation of surviving abductees, but we could not gain a satisfactory response and our differences were not narrowed," he said.
