'Huser wanted disclosure delayed'

A building designer told the Diet on Jan. 19 that Huser Ltd. President Susumu Ojima (pictured) called for a delay in disclosing quake-resistance data irregularities at a meeting of people involved in the construction projects in late October, three weeks before the government went public with the scandal.

Masakazu Inoue, head of Space One design office, testified as an unsworn witness at the Lower House's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee that Ojima had asked the design office to use former architect Hidetsugu Aneha. Aneha has said he falsified structural data for a number of buildings.

Ojima told the Oct. 27 meeting that disclosing the data falsification "should be delayed," Inoue told the committee.

The meeting took place at the office of eHomes Inc., a state-designated building inspection agency that failed to detect data falsification by Aneha, about 20 days before the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revealed the falsification.
