A baby girl with a rare intestinal disorder was rehospitalized Jan. 13 at the Miami, Florida, facility where she underwent a multiple-organ transplant in December, hospital officials said Jan. 14.
Ayaka Kandatsu will undergo tests at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital, from where she had been discharged Jan. 10, as she is showing symptoms that may be an early indication her body is rejecting the transplant, the officials said.
Ayaka arrived in the United States on Dec. 8 for transplant surgery involving five organs: her stomach, pancreas, liver and the small and large intestines. The operation took place Dec. 17.
