U.S. film fest helps spread word
Abduction, the U.S. documentary film that tells the story of Megumi Yokota, a Japanese woman abducted in 1977 at age 13 by North Korean agents, will be screened at the Slamdance Film Festival for new independent films that runs from Jan. 19 to 27 in Park City, Utah. As one of nine documentaries selected out of 500 entries this year, the film will premiere Jan. 22.
"We've always believed Megumi's story would resonate with people outside Japan. It is a universal, deeply human story about love and loss," said Chris Sheridan, who co-directed the film with his wife, Patty Kim, with Jane Campion (The Piano) as executive producer.
