Mountaha Chehade Haidar is visiting Niigata in effort to seek help to get back her daughter who allegedly was abducted by North Korea.
|
Mountaha Chehade Haidar, 69, the mother of a Lebanese woman allegedly abducted to North Korea in 1978, met U.S. Army deserter and 40-year North Korean resident Charles Jenkins in Niigata on Dec. 16. She sought his advice on how to rescue her daughter, Shi'am, who married another U.S. military deserter in North Korea and has three sons.
Jenkins, 65, left North Korea in 2004 to rejoin his Japanese wife, Hitomi Soga, who was kidnapped by North Korean agents in 1978 but allowed to return home in 2002. He told Haidar that his family had lived in the same condominium in Pyongyang as Shi'am's and that she began drinking heavily after her husband died.
