Rakuten leaks 36,000 personal data
The largest online shopping mall operator Rakuten Inc. said Aug. 6 it has confirmed another leak of personal data involving 36,000 people who shopped at an imported goods store in its Internet mall.
Rakuten said earlier it had confirmed leaks of such data on some 280 customers.
The company said the leaked data included credit card numbers in about 10,000 cases.
The customers are shoppers who purchased goods from AMC, a shop selling imported merchandise operated by American Merchandise Concept Inc. in Tokyo.
The number is expected to rise further as the store has taken 94,000 orders since it signed up with the Rakuten site in March 2002.
