Two brothers were arrested June 5 in Shizuoka Prefecture on suspicion of stealing a loaded gun from a police officer and injuring him last month in Gifu Prefecture. The brothers have allegedly admitted to the charges.
The suspects were identified as Mauro de Souza Eguti, 22, and Jorge Edgar de Souza Eguti, 26. Both are Japanese-Brazilian.
A third Japanese-Brazilian, Alexandre Satil Matsumoto, 29, was arrested on suspicion of hiding the brothers from police, Gifu Prefectural Police said.

According to the investigators, the brothers assaulted a police officer May 13 when he tried to question Jorge Edgar over the truck he was driving. Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen.
He sped away in the truck but drove off the road. The police officer ran up and grabbed him after he got out of the vehicle. The younger brother showed up in a minicar and allegedly assaulted the officer from behind. They reportedly snatched the handgun and drove off in the smaller vehicle.
The gun was found two days later in a mailbox in Nara Prefecture, about 120 km from the crime scene.
