A Japan Airlines jumbo jet bound for Narita International Airport made an emergency landing May 8 at Shin-Chitose Airport in Hokkaido after oxygen masks in the passenger cabin were released due to reduced air pressure, JAL officials said.
The Boeing 747, which originated in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and was coming into Tokyo via New York with 355 passengers and 19 crew on board, made the emergency landing at 12:50 p.m.
After the oxygen masks were released, the pilot made a rapid descent to about 3,000 meters from around 11,000 meters.
The plane landed about 70 minutes later.
