Mizuho Financial Group Inc. and Japan Post are expected to develop a biometric cash card to combat increasingly frequent fraud cases involving forged cards, it was learned Jan. 30.
They are planning to put the card into service within a year from April, informed sources said. Between them, they operate more than 30,000 automated teller machines across the country.
Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. may join in the initiative, the sources said.
A biometric cash card uses biological features such as the shape, the size or the vein pattern of the hand or the shape of the iris to verify the identity of a cash card holder.
