Daiei, Softbank reach Hawks' sale accord
Struggling retailer Daiei Inc. and Internet service provider Softbank Corp. reached a basic agreement Nov. 12 on the sale of the Daiei Hawks professional baseball team, sources said.
Daiei President Toshio Hasumi and Softbank President Masayoshi Son met at a Tokyo hotel, and agreed on Daiei's sale of the Pacific League club to the Internet firm, according to the sources.
Softbank is planning to buy Daiei's stake in the baseball club for ¥5 billion and the rights to the Hawks' games from U.S. investment bank Colony Capital LLC for ¥10 billion to ¥15 billion, the sources said.
