Prosecutors at the Tokyo District Court on July 12 demanded a 15-year prison sentence for the alleged ringleader of a series of gang rapes involving students at prestigious universities.
Shinichiro Wada, 29, a former student at Waseda University, is charged with raping a woman college student in May last year at a party hosted by an event-planning circle called "Super Free," of which he was the organizer.
Wada is charged with another rape in December 2001.
All 13 other defendants in the case have received jail sentences. One of them, a 22-year-old former Waseda student, has appealed his 10-year prison sentence.
In their final arguments, the prosecutors said Wada holds the greatest responsibility for the crime, as he had carefully planned the rapes, and the series of crimes would not have been committed without him.
