A man turned himself in to the police June 26 over the shooting of a Tokyo subway worker during the morning rush hour June 23.
Police said Tokuhisa Kumagai, 64, of Yokohama was in possession of a handgun when he showed up at Metropolitan Police Department headquarters in Chiyoda Ward at around 6 p.m. and told officers, "I did the Shibuya incident."
Kumagai was immediately placed under arrest for possessing a 38-caliber revolver in violation of the firearms control law.
The subway worker, Shigeo Nishioka, 32, was shot in the abdomen just before 9 a.m. June 23 in an underground passage at Shibuya Station.
According to police, Nishioka said a man shot him after coming up from behind and demanding that he hand over a paper bag he was carrying.
Kumagai reportedly told police he thought the bag contained money.
Nishioka said later it only held some of his personal effects.
