Asahara's daughter wins school OK

A university in Tokyo announced May 6 that it has accepted the enrollment of the third daughter of Aum Shinrikyo founder Shoko Asahara.

The move follows a court injunction ordering Bunkyo University in Shinagawa Ward to reverse its earlier rejection of the 21-year-old woman.

"We decided to respect the court injunction and accepted the enrollment," said Nobuharu Yashima, a university spokesman.

In February, the university notified the woman, whose name is being withheld, that she had passed an entrance exam to the institution.

It later canceled the enrollment decision, however, after verifying the woman's identity.

After a complaint from the woman, the Tokyo District Court on April 28 acknowledged that she had a right to study at the college.
