More North Korea sanctions urged
A draft bill calling for additional sanctions on North Korea, including bans on all exports and travel to the hermit state, was compiled Nov. 21 by a Liberal Democratic Party committee.
The special committee dealing with North Korea's abductions of Japanese nationals compiled the proposed measure in response to Pyongyang's reluctance to launch a fresh investigation into the abductees, despite its earlier promise to do so, panel members said.
The LDP may consider working on a joint bill with the Democratic Party of Japan, the main opposition force. The DPJ has compiled a 14-point draft proposal for additional economic sanctions against North Korea, including bans on all exports and travel to the country, sources said in early November.
The LDP committee's 14-point plan calls for a ban on the entry of all ships that have made stops in North Korea into Japanese ports and the reinforcement of financial measures, including the freezing of bank accounts of all groups related to the North, according to the committee members.
