Oji Paper admits pollution violations
Oji Paper Co., the nation's largest paper maker, admitted July 13 that its Fuji plant in Shizuoka Prefecture emitted more nitrogen oxide than permitted under an accord with local authorities and that it falsified the data in reports to local municipalities.
The company also said it has found a similar violation of an accord with local authorities in Yonago, Tottori Prefecture.
The violations are in addition to cases involving four other plants that emitted more nitrogen oxide from boilers than legally allowed. Two of the four plants are located in Kushiro and Tomakomai in Hokkaido while the other two, operated by a subsidiary of Oji Paper, are in Kubota, Saga Prefecture, and Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, it said.
