Acting Japanese Baseball commissioner Yasuchika Negoro is prepared to take severe action against the Seibu Lions, who inappropriately paid a total of some ¥13 million to two amateurs from 2004 to 2005.
"I don't believe this kind of scouting scandal goes away by fining those responsible," Negoro told reporters March 12.
"Even if we have to make some sacrifices, we should get rid of bad apples in Japanese baseball."
Negoro's comments came after acting Seibu owner Hidekazu Ota visited the baseball commissioner's office to explain how the club ended up paying ¥2.7 million to Tokyo Gas Co. left-hander Yuta Kimura and ¥10.25 million to a Waseda University position player.
