Matsuzaka back with $52 million
Daisuke Matsuzaka said Dec. 18 his contract negotiations with the Boston Red Sox were tough and he even thought about having to return to Japan without signing a deal.

"It was tough and left me mentally exhausted," Matsuzaka said after returning from the United States following the signing of a six-year, $52 million contract with the Red Sox.
"It came across my mind during the talks that I might have to go back to Japan from Los Angeles without going to Boston," he said.
On Dec. 14, the right-hander was introduced by the Red Sox after both sides reached an agreement shortly before the deadline set after the American League club won the exclusive negotiating rights for Matsuzaka with a $51 million bid last month.
