Honma urged to resign post
Some Cabinet ministers effectively urged Masaaki Honma on Dec. 19 to resign as chairman of a key government tax panel over a weekly magazine report that he had lived with a woman other than his wife at a government-sponsored condominium in Tokyo.

"Honma should seriously consider whether to remain in the post," Administrative Reform Minister Genichiro Sata said.
But Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki and Finance Minister Koji Omi defended Honma, who has moved from the condominium. They encouraged him to fulfill his duties as chairman of the key panel that works out tax reform proposals.
Hidenao Nakagawa, secretary-general of the ruling Liberal-Democratic Party, said he supports Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's stance that Honma should fulfill his duties.
