Panel to submit report on succession A governing Liberal-Democratic Party panel on Imperial succession was to submit its report to the LDP Policy Research Council on June 14 with two opposing proposals given equal weight, its members said. Based on a draft compiled earlier in June, the report has included the premise that it "is desirable" that the current male-line succession be maintained -- a phrase aimed at narrowing the gap between those who advocate preserving the incumbent succession system and those who favor allowing female monarchs. The panel's report will be used as a basis for further discussions within the party.
