Daihatsu gears up, bucks trend
Minicar specialist Daihatsu Motor Co., which is based in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, on Dec. 10 announced plans to build a factory with an annual output capacity of 150,000 vehicles.
The plant, to adjoin an existing factory in Nakatsu, Oita Prefecture, is scheduled for completion in 2008 and will be the second domestic plant built by the company in four years.
The combined annual output capacity will rise 60 percent, to 400,000 vehicles, when the new facility is added. Daihatsu had an overall output of 870,000 vehicles in fiscal year 2004.
