Group suicides claim 11 lives Four people -- three men and a woman -- were found dead in a sealed-up van in a rest-stop parking lot in Yabu, Hyogo Prefecture, on Dec. 11 in an apparent Internet suicide pact. On the same day, a couple was found dead in a car in the parking garage of an apartment building in Sapporo. Tragically, as the car's engine was left running in a shuttered garage, the exhaust gases pervaded the apartment building, leading to the death of a female resident. Four more people were found dead in the house of a 68-year-old man in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, on Dec. 11. Police suspected the four to be the homeowner, his wife and the couple's two sons.
