2005 Kanji of the Year ``ai (love)''

Chinese character for "love" was chosen in an annual poll as best representing 2005, the Kyoto-based Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation announced Dec. 11. The character received 4.7 percent of the 85,000 votes cast, and it was the first time that a "heartwarming" character was picked since the foundation started holding the event 11 years ago.
