Health food seller top taxpayer in 2003
Health food salesman Hitori Saito was the country's top individual taxpayer last year, according to a list of the top 100 Japanese taxpayers in 2003 released by the National Tax Agency on May 17. Saito paid some ¥1.14 billion in income tax from sales of diet products. He has ranked among Japan's top 10 taxpayers for 11 straight years.
The list includes two people who paid ¥1 billion or more in income tax. There were four such people in 2002 and nine in 2001.
Thirty people paid ¥500 million or more, double the 15 who did so the previous year.
