Kazuhiro Haraguchi

A graduate of the University of Tokyo, Haraguchi started his political career in 1987 as a local assembly member from the Saga prefectural chapter of the LDP.
Before entering politics, Haraguchi attended the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management, a well-known elite training school established by Panasonic Corp. founder Konosuke Matsushita.
He entered national politics in 1996, winning a Lower House seat on the Shinshinto ticket.
Haraguchi joined the DPJ two years later, when Shinshinto disbanded.
In 2005, when the LDP won the Lower House election by a landslide, Haraguchi lost his single-seat race but managed to be elected via proportional representation.
