Aiming to be a world-class research university centered on knowledge integration

Based on the principles of practicality, innovation, openness, internationality and diverse inscribed in the University Charter and fostered throughout its history, Yokohama National University has brought together faculty members with diverse specialties such as humanities, social sciences, science and engineering on one campus to provide education and carry out research that emphasizes the practical application of knowledge, and has achieved front-line research results in various fields.

Building on these achievements, it hopes to remain at the center of innovation in Japan and the region and aims to become a world-class research university centered on knowledge integration that contributes to the “proposal of new social and economic systems” as well as the “innovation and development of science and technology” by mobilizing diverse academic and practical knowledge and by openly collaborating with various industries, regions, communities and citizens, both domestically and internationally. It shares this vision not only with faculty and staff members, but also with students, parents, alumni and the local community so that they can grow together.

Tuition waiver

This program is to promote the acceptance of academically excellent international students and provide them with financial support.

Scholarships

There are two types of scholarships for privately financed international students: university-recommended scholarships, and scholarships for which students apply directly.

Degree programs offered in English

YNU offers special programs (undergraduate, master’s and doctoral) for those who wish to study solely in English. Also, all courses at the Graduate School of Engineering Science are taught in English.

Japanese-language education

At YNU, Japanese-language classes are provided for all international students, including undergraduate, graduate, research and short-term exchange students.
