Founded in 1911, Kyushu University is a leading research-oriented institution of higher education located in Fukuoka. The city, polled as one of Japan’s most desirable cities to live in and surrounded by mountains and ocean, has historically been renowned as Japan's “gateway to Asia” and offers fast access to the continent. The university celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011 and is embarking on its second century with bold steps. Kyushu University comprises 12 undergraduate schools, 20 graduate schools, 17 faculties, five research institutes, a hospital and over 50 affiliated research centers. With an enrollment of nearly 20,000 students, including over 2,500 international students representing 109 countries, the university is steadfast in its commitment to internationalization.
Kyushu University was recognized as a designated national university corporation by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in November 2021 for its capacity to develop research and educational programs at the highest global standards.
