Buying a car in four easy steps
First in a four-part series
Numerous features on the MyToyota.jp Web site take the hassle of making that important decision.
Bilingual assistants will help guide you through the process, via phone or in person.
When you're getting close to buying, translation can be provided at the dealership.
And of course, you can give your dream car a test drive.
When you're set, a Car Buyer's Assistant will help your fill out the necessary paperwork. All you have to do after that is get in the driver's seat.

Shopping for a good deal on a car can be tough, even in the best of circumstances. Add a language barrier and a litany of unfamiliar requirements into the mix, and it can quickly become a nightmare.

MyToyota.jp, a Web-based service established by Tokyo-area Toyota dealers, is designed to make buying a car a smooth, enjoyable experience for expats residing or working in the nation's capital by offering English-Japanese bilingual support throughout the purchasing process.

To view this service, visit http://www.mytoyota.jp/english. At the top of the homepage you'll find several menus, including the Car Buyer's Assistant Service, Car Search, Car Buyer's Guide, Driving Guides of Seasons and FAQ.

Clicking on the Car Buyer's Assistant Service menu reveals four simple steps designed to put you behind the wheel of your favorite Toyota.

First, you fill out the online application form (this can also be done over the phone), specifying what model you're interested in, body style, new or used, your budget requirement, and other information. To help you make your decision, input your criteria into the Car Search menu and you'll be presented with a page of appropriate models and their specifications. (Used cars are listed under a separate menu.) Soon after submitting your application to the MyToyota.jp customer desk, a Car Buyer's Assistant will e-mail you information on cars that meet your requirements.

Once you decide which car is right for you, your Car Buyer's Assistant will introduce you to the most suitable dealership, schedule a meeting with a sales representative, and provide interpretation services at this meeting and at any other time in the purchase process. Meetings with the sales representative can take place at your home or at the dealership, and MyToyota.jp will be happy to arrange a test drive for you if a demonstration car is available. If you already have a car, a trade-in can be discussed.

Your Car Buyer's Assistant and dealer will assist you in the preparation of all necessary documents to purchase and register your car. A thorough explanation of the mandatory paperwork can also be found in the Car Buyer's Guide section along with details on requirements for driving and purchasing a car in Japan, as well as a description of price quotations and fees.

MyToyota.jp's participation ends once the purchase process is completed, but MyToyota.jp Customer Desk will provide limited English-language assistance for after-service care upon request. In addition, both new and used Toyotas come with substantial warranties to ensure you enjoy years of trouble-free motoring.
