JSA chides Asa's stable-master

Kyodo News

Japan Sumo Association chairman Musashigawa reprimanded Asashoryu's stable-master Thursday because the Mongolian yokozuna pumped his fists after winning the recently concluded New Year Grand Sumo Tournament.

Asashoryu's stable-master Takasago was warned in a meeting with Musashigawa and high-ranking sumo official Isenoumi after the yokozuna exhibited behavior lacking in the proper etiquette called for in the centuries-old sport.

"I told him to be stricter with Asashoryu. If it happens in the future, there will be repercussions," said Musashigawa.

Asashoryu, who had endured an injury-plagued six months and missed part or all of the previous three tournaments with an injured elbow, showed his elation after beating rival yokozuna Hakuho in a playoff on the final day of the meet on Sunday.
