FUKUOKA (Kyodo) Maegashira wrestler Wakanosato said Thursday he will most likely sit out the upcoming Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament due to a hamstring injury.
Wakanosato suffered the injury on the sixth day of the autumn meet in September and failed to recover in time for the opening of the 15-day tournament beginning Sunday at Fukuoka Kokusai Center.
The 29-year-old pulled out of the autumn tournament and his record of 4-3 with eight rest days demoted him from sekiwake, the third highest rank in sumo, to No. 3 maegashira.
