Musashimaru back in training

Yokozuna Musashimaru resumed practice Monday in a bid to make his comeback at the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament in July after missing the last four basho with a nagging wrist injury.

"(The wrist) is holding up fine," the Samoan-born bruiser said after going through a light workout with several makushita-division wrestlers with his left wrist heavily strapped.

Musashimaru admitted that he is not yet ready to practice against wrestlers in the top two juryo and makuuchi divisions and stablemaster Musashigawa said he would be trying to get back to his best one step at a time.

The 32-year-old has been out of action since November, when he damaged ligaments in his wrist and pulled out midway through the Kyushu meet. He underwent surgery on his wrist later that month.

Meanwhile, sekiwake and Musashigawa stablemate Dejima entered hospital to undergo surgery on his right knee.

"It's a simple operation and he should be able to start training again in a couple of weeks," said Musashigawa.
