World's best set for Yonex Open

Staff writer

Top ranked and defending champion Lin Dan of China and world No. 2 Chong Wei Lee of Malaysia will compete in the Yonex Open Japan 2006 starting Tuesday at Tokyo's Yoyogi National Gymnasium.

Lin and Lee have established a great rivalry by battling for the world No. 1 spot this season.

The two have met seven times this season, with Lin leading 5-2 in head-to-head matches.

Other participants to be featured in men's singles are third-ranked Chen Jin of China and No. 4 Peter Gade of Denmark.

In women's action, world No. 1 Zhang Ning and her fellow-Chinese and second-ranked Xie Xingfang will compete.

Zhang defeated Xie in the final to capture her first Yonex Open championship last year.

The tournament runs from Tuesday to Sunday and tickets are available at major ticket outlets.
