Apache's Hill to work in Taiwan

STAFF REPORT

Tokyo Apache head coach Bob Hill, a veteran sideline supervisor of four NBA teams, told The Japan Times on Saturday he's accepted a position as a consultant for the Taiwan men's national basketball team's coaching staff for the summer.

The job runs through September, Hill added.

According to online reports, Taiwan Beer's Chou Jun-san will be the national team coach for this summer's FIBA East Asia Basketball Championship and the FIBA Asia Championship. The EABC is scheduled for June 8 to 15, followed by the Sept. 15 to 25 in Nanjing, China. Taiwan is expected to advance to the second tournament.

Last season, the Apache held a preseason training camp in Texas, starting in early September. This year's FIBA Asia Championship could conflict with the Apache's preseason preparations, meaning someone else would need to conduct training camp this September.

Hill, who has been actively working with forward Jeremy Tyler as the 2011 NBA Draft approaches, said he has not spoken to team officials about their plans for the 2011-12 season. The Apache last played a game on March 10.

The bj-league draft, meanwhile, is slated for mid-June, and coaches generally provide some input on a team's needs and roster makeup.
