LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) Ex-Louisville basketball standout Kenny Payne has been hired as one of John Calipari's assistant coaches at rival Kentucky.
Calipari announced the hiring Friday in a news release.
Payne, a forward in his playing days, replaces former assistant Rod Strickland, who was voluntarily reassigned to another position in the program following his arrest on a drunken driving charge.
Payne had coached since 2004 as an assistant at the University of Oregon.
He played in 10 professional basketball leagues worldwide, including the JBL (in 1994 for Toshiba). He spent four years with the Philadelphia 76ers, who took him in the first round of the 1989 NBA Draft.
