Rizing hold off late-charging 89ersThe Japan Times
Kohei Mitomo and Michael Parker scored 24 points apiece as the Rizing Fukuoka defeated the visiting Sendai 89ers 76-74 on Monday in the bj-league. Mitomo's 3-pointer gave the Rizing (16-9) a 72-62 lead with 2:34 left in the fourth quarter, but the 89ers chipped away at the lead. Gyno Pomare's 3-pointer cut it to 74-71 with 38 seconds left. Marlyn Bryant's two free throws pushed the lead back to five with 22 seconds remaining. The 89ers' Kenichi Takahashi, who scored 13 points, missed a 3-pointer with 7 seconds left, grabbed his own rebound and quickly fired up another 3 as time expired to account for the game's final points. Pomare finished with a team-high 24 points and 10 rebounds Sendai (12-9), Demetrius Guions added 18 points and seven boards and Chris Holm had 11 points and 13 rebounds. For Fukuoka, which improved to 8-5 at home, Isaiah Fox had 12 points and seven boards and Bryant chipped in with 10 points and a game-high four assists. |
