Yamaga earns win in Emperors Cup

Japan Football League club Matsumoto Yamaga pulled off a massive upset with a 2-0 win over second-division Yokohama FC in the second round of the Emperor's Cup on Saturday.

Semi-professional Yamaga, the Nagano-based club former Japan defender Naoki Matsuda belonged to when he died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 34 in August, advanced thanks to two goals in the space of two second-half minutes.

Kawasaki Frontale got a scare and needed an extra-time goal from Yusuke Tasaka to see off JFL club Arte Takasaki 2-1, securing their passage into the next round along with last year's beaten finalists Shimizu S-Pulse and the rest of the top flight teams involved in Saturday's matches.
