J. League to skip All-Star game

Kyodo News

There will be no J-League All-Star game this year, the league said Tuesday.

Unable to work out a deal with sponsors, the J-League will skip an All-Star game for the first time since its inaugural season in 1993.

But for next year, the league has decided to consider whether to have a match between the All-Star squads of the J-League and South Korea's K-League or an All-Star game by J-League players only.

The J-League also said China and Australia have shown interest in joining the Japanese All-Star scheme.

In the past two years, the J-League All-Star team played its K-League counterpart.
