Grampus, Marinos safely through

Kyodo News

Nagoya Grampus rebounded from their midweek Asian Champions League exit to beat non-league Honda Lock 2-0 and advance to the fourth round of the Emperor's Cup on Sunday.

Yokohama F. Marinos also went through after thrashing Fukushima United 4-1 at home, leaving Meiji University, a shock 3-0 winner at Montedio Yamagata on Saturday, as the only amateur side to make the last 16.

Keiji Yoshimura gave Grampus the break they needed with the opener on 68 minutes before an own goal 12 minutes from time sealed victory and helped ease the pain after their 8-3 aggregate defeat to Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad in the ACL.

At Nissan Stadium, first-half goals from Kazuma Watanabe, Daisuke Sakata and Yusuke Tanaka put Yokohama in control. Fukushima hit back in the 72nd minute through captain Yu Tokisaki but a fine strike from Kenta Kano finished off the underdogs.

In the day's other tie, Koki Yonekura scored twice as struggling JEF United Chiba won 3-2 at relegated Oita Trinita.
