Chong rescues point for Frontale

KAWASAKI (Kyodo) Chong Tese struck a second-half equalizer as Kawasaki Frontale came from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw at home to Jubilo Iwata in the J. League first division on Sunday.

Ryoichi Maeda and Kota Ueda found the net in each half for the visitors but Kawasaki fought back each time through midfielder Hiroyuki Taniguchi and North Korea striker Chong, who scored his seventh goal of the season in the 65th minute.

Fifth-placed Kawasaki moved to 34 points but saw the gap on leaders Kashima Antlers widen to four points, while Iwata are 14th on 25 points.

Kashima thrashed Tokyo Verdy 4-1 on Saturday and maintained its league lead over Urawa Reds by one point.

In other action, Shimizu S-Pulse played out a 1-1 draw with visiting Yokohama F. Marinos in a match between relegation-threatened sides.

Keisuke Iwashita's equalizer early in the second half canceled out a 28th-minute goal from Japan international defender Yuji Nakazawa.

At Sapporo Dome, Fernandinho netted a free kick in the dying minutes to give Kyoto Sanga a 2-1 win at Consadole Sapporo, which was left at the foot of the 18-team table in the top flight.
