FUKUOKA (AP) J. League second division side Avispa Fukuoka has fired German coach Pierre Littbarski, the team announced Friday on its official Web site.
Avispa has eight wins, 11 losses and five draws from 24 games this season and is in 10th place on the 15-team standings.
Littbarski, a member of the 1990 World Cup-winning West German squad, will be replaced by Yoshiyuki Shinoda, an existing coach with the team.
Littbarski, who had previous coaching stints with Australia's Sydney FC, Yokohama FC and German club MSV Duisburg, took over at Avispa in 2007, leading the team to a seventh-place finish in division two.
