Smart bet is on J. League games

The J. League matches paid out 200 million yen in top prize money, a record return in the five-year history of Japan's soccer pools, for Tuesday's games, the Japan Sports Advancement Lottery said.

The operator of the pools said two coupons for the top prize have been sold in the "toto" betting on the win-draw-loss results of 13 of the 15 J. League first- and second-division matches played Tuesday. Under the new formula, called the "totoGoal," the highest return so far of 177,968,775 yen was recorded last April.

Although few upsets were seen in Tuesday's games, the balance at the beginning of a period totaled as high as more than 330 million yen.
