Gamba to allow Oguro to leave for French side Grenoble

OSAKA (Kyodo) Japan and Gamba Osaka striker Masashi Oguro, who has received an offer from Grenoble for his services, said Thursday talks are progressing toward a switch to the French second-division club.

"I have notified Gamba that I want to go to France. I will leave this matter to my agent as the two clubs will work things out from now on," Oguro said, adding Gamba did not persuade him to stay with the newly crowned J. League champions in Thursday's talks.

Gamba had earlier offered him a multiyear contract.

Oguro was instrumental in Gamba's successful campaign by forming a striking partnership with Brazilian Araujo, the league's top scorer with 33 goals, while scoring 16 times himself.

The 25-year-old also helped Japan book their place in the World Cup finals in Germany.

Grenoble are owned by Japanese mobile content provider Index Corp., which bought the team in October last year.
