JFA may change its mind on friendlies

Japan Football Association chairman Saburo Kawabuchi hinted Wednesday that Japan could make an about face and cancel two friendlies in the United States at the end of this month if a U.S.-led war against Iraq begins.

"There is still time before we depart (for the U.S.) and we need to monitor the situation very closely before making a decision (on whether to go ahead with the tour)."

Kawabuchi said that "a final decision will be made" at a JFA council meeting on Friday.

Japan is set to depart Sunday to play Uruguay in San Diego next Wednesday and the U.S. in Seattle three days later.
