Omae begins camp with Dusseldorf

Kyodo

COLOGNE, Germany — New Fortuna Dusseldorf signing Genki Omae and 19-year-old Japanese trialist Ken Matsubara left for Spain with the squad for a training camp in Marbella on Wednesday.

The camp will run through Jan. 10 and Dusseldorf has a friendly lined up against Hiroshi Kiyotake's Nuremberg on Jan. 9.

In an interview on the club's website, Omae, who scored 13 times in 34 league games last season for Shimizu S-Pulse, said it was his ambition to play in the German Bundesliga.

"It was my dream to play in Germany," he said. "I have watched lots of videos and I think this team is defensive. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of soccer the team actually plays.

"I am a goalscorer and I have confidence in my movement off the ball."
