LONDON — Fulham midfielder Moussa Dembele is on the verge of joining Tottenham after the west London club revealed it had accepted a bid for the Belgium international.
Dembele was missing from Fulham's squad in its 1-0 League Cup second round defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday and the Cottagers confirmed after the match the 25-year-old was having a medical with Tottenham.
With around £33 million ($52 million) to spend from this week's sale of Luka Modric to Real Madrid, Dembele, who joined Fulham from AZ Alkmaar in 2010, is seen by Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas as the ideal replacement for the Croatia midfielder.
"(Fulham manager) Martin (Jol) confirmed post match that the club has accepted a bid for Moussa Dembele from Tottenham Hotspur, the player is currently undergoing a medical," a statement on the club's website read.
