LONDON — Chelsea captain John Terry has denied the English Football Association charge of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during a match last year.

The F.A. said on its website Friday that Terry has requested a personal hearing. The date has not been set.

Terry was cleared in a British court of law in July of racially abusing Ferdinand in a Premier League match last October. But the F.A. said that it had considered evidence from the trial when charging the England defender.

The F.A. says Terry included "a reference to ethnic origin and/or color and/or race," but he "remains available to play for England" while the charge is heard.
