Kagawa focused ahead of qualifiers

Kyodo

FUKUROI, Shizuoka Pref. — Borussia Dortmund star Shinji Kagawa has shrugged off speculation surrounding a possible move to Manchester United and says he is focusing on Japan's friendly Wednesday against Azerbaijan and the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Oman, Jordan and Australia.

Kagawa, who is among 10 European-based players back in Japan for the qualifying warmup against Azerbaijan in Shizuoka, has made it clear he wants to set his sights on a move to the English Premier League.

He recently met with United boss Alex Ferguson, who watched the 23-year-old in action in Dortmund's 5-2 win over Bayern Munich in the German Cup final earlier this month, and is also reportedly being targeted by Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan.

But speaking to reporters ahead of Wednesday's game, Kagawa said a club transfer was not his priority while he was with the national team, "and we have three important games coming up. I want a good performance and a good result (on Wednesday) to build on for the next games."

Kagawa also modestly played down his role in helping Dortmund successfully defend its Bundesliga title and complete a first-ever double by beating Bayern, insisting he is no superstar.
